Nikon unveils its Z9 full-frame mirrorless camera

Nikon leaps forward with its first flagship Z series model- the most powerful Nikon Z9. In addition, Nikon is proud to release the most awaited full-frame mirrorless camera based on the Nikon FX-format and Nikon X mount.

Converging the cutting-edge Nikon technologies, the Z9 flagship is designed to deliver the best still and video features with a transcendent performance. All thanks to the new CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 7 image-processing engine, Z9 reveals the most powerful performance of Nikon cameras.

The advanced AF system can detect the widest range of subjects, for videos and stills, with the capability to capture decisive moments for diverse subjects.

Nikon Z9 brings the landmark mirrorless camera, a favorite choice for wildlife and sports photographers, marking an end to the pro – Nikon DSLRs, matching the best advances of its rivals Canon and Sony.

Phenomenal Design

Nikon Z9 is a traditional mirrorless camera, ergonomically refined, displaying the ethnicity of Nikon flagship cameras, the first to arrive without a mechanical shutter. Designed in a 20% smaller size than Nikon D6, the comfortable grip of the camera is ideal for shooting in any orientation, packed in a magnesium alloy body, fully weather sealed.

The camera presents an AF button for quick switching between auto-focus and manual mode, a four-axis feature at the back, tilt in any direction at right angles, especially shooting from high or low angles.

It delivers the highest reliability, with additional dust and drip-resistant performance, operable at temperatures as low as -10°C/14°F. Moreover, with the quickest scanning speed of the 45.7-MP stacked CMOS sensor, Z9 is equipped with minimal rolling shutter distortion.

An additional VR safety lock protects the sensor from damage. The CMOS sensor supports continuous shooting up to 20 fps for RAWs and 30 fps for JPEGs. In addition, users are provided with the ability to lower the camera’s resolution to 11MP for faster and continuous shooting at 120 fps. The electronic shutter distorts to a minimum while going as high as 1/32,000 of a second.

Advanced Features

Z9 brings 8K UHD/30p video recording without the need for an external recorder for up to 125 minutes, the longest in the world. Even 4K UHD/120p/60p/30p video recording is also possible, complying with the varied demands of video production activities. Equipped with Real life and electronic viewfinders, Z9 surpasses the existing SLR and mirrorless camera performances.

It leverages the most advanced deep learning technology. In addition, the camera is claimed to be the most advanced autofocus system, featuring 3D tracking and Subject detection, able to detect 9 types of subjects, from people to animals, and even automobiles can instill the video.

With its efficient heat dissipation design and utilizing the resolving power of the NIKKOR Z S-Line interchangeable lenses, the Nikon Z9 exudes amazingly high rendering performance. It even allows in-camera recording at 10-bit N-Log and HLG, featuring the ProRes 422 HQ recording compatibility of the recording format.

Equipped with a new Quad-VGA panel for the viewfinder, the camera allows manual adjustments of brightness, up to 3000cd/m2, the brightest in the world. Additionally, a Synchro VR feature combines the in-body image stabilization system with vibration reduction for better image stabilization.

Featured with an EN-EL18d battery, Z9 enjoys a very strong battery backup. However, the resolution of the OLED EVF is limited to 3.69 million dots, and there is no multi-directional Touchscreen added with the system.

Image transfers are supported by 1000BASE-T wired LAN and built-in wireless LAN, expressing the compatibility with CFexpress Type B memory cards, ideal for continuous shooting at high speed. Nikon Z9 has higher efficiency and high-performance flagship camera, announced in March 2021, which can be on sale by the end of the year.
