Dell unveils new XPS 13 & XPS 13 2-in-1 2022 with advanced features

Dell has unveiled the final bits of its XPS 13 portfolio for 2022. Following the debut of the XPS 13 Plus earlier this year, the company has released the traditional, lower-priced XPS 13 clamshell makeover. Dell also modified the layout of the XPS 13 2-in-1, making it a tablet with a detachable keyboard cover.

Dell claims its XPS 13 2022 model is the “thinnest and lightest 13-inch XPS” ever, thanks to Intel’s recent 12th-gen Alder Lake CPUs, which offer more cores & hybrid systems. The convertible hinge of the XPS 13 2-in-1 2022 model is modified with an XPS Folio keyboard case, which is similar to Apple’s Magic Keyboard for the iPad.

Dell XPS 13 9315

At first appearance, it’s easy to dismiss it as merely another refresh, with its iconic CNC machined aluminum, glass chassis, and some new colors. However, it would be grossly underestimating the interior work Dell has done.

The new laptop is only 13.9mm thick and weighs 2.59 pounds. It’s crafted of CNC-based aluminum and available in 2 colors: Sky & Umber. It still has an isolated keyboard and a typical touchpad.

Internally, the configuration has been changed to contain Dell’s smallest motherboard, which is 1.8x smaller than the previous generation, allowing for larger speakers and other technology. Unlike its predecessor, the new system is so powerful that it only needs one fan to cool the entire system.

When the fan runs at full speed, Dell says it will be noisier than previously, but it will be quieter under normal use. It has a 13.4-inch FHD+ or UHD+ display, with a memory of around 32GB LPSSR5-5200 & around 1TB SSD, among other features.

Even though the website camera is 720p, the XPS 13 integrates Intel’s Evo requirement with Intel’s pts device, compensating for the missing of an FHD webcam in different aspects. In addition to producing less heat, having greater internal space allowed Dell to include larger speaker casings and a larger battery, with 12h capacity.

The frame is made of low-carbon aluminum to reduce its carbon impact, and this year’s edition comes in new packaging that is “100% recyclable or renewable content.” The sale has begun for XPS 13, starting at $999, while the Developer Edition sells at $949.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

The XPS 13 2-in-1 has an LPDDR4x memory & a 13-inch 3K display with HDR400. The 2-in-1 tablet weighs 1.6 pounds for Wi-Fi and 1.8 pounds for 5G. The XPS 13 2-in-1 appears nearly all-display with Dell’s ultra-thin screen borders.

Compared to the previous generation, the folio design allows for new use cases such as note-taking and drawing with Gorilla Glass 7 and active pen support. The magnetic XPS Folio supports three angles: 100 degrees, 112.5 degrees, and 125 degrees, and features a magnetic stylus designed for right & left-handed use & a full charge should last about 50 days.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is the company’s first consumer PC with global 5G connectivity and features two cameras – 5 MP HD with Windows Hello support and an 11 MP 4K webcam. As for connectivity, only two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) connections are available, which enable DisplayPort and Power Delivery. The screen is meant to be anti-reflective and anti-smudge, built of Gorilla Glass 7.
