So far, it has been a busy month for Canon. They have already launched a number of new lenses for their cameras.
Just recently, Canon announced a new firmware update. This new firmware update is for the Canon EOS C300 Mark III and EOS C500 Mark II digital cinema cameras.
The new firmware update from Canon will allow these cameras to get Frame.io Camera to Cloud (C2C). C2C compatibility is revolutionizing workflow which can help the users to save tons of time which is quite valuable in the cinema industry.
The reason why this technology is good is that it enables users to work in collaborations utilizing the cloud-based approach for daily work.
So users who work in production environments like recording scripted motion pictures, reality TV production, shooting commercials, documentaries, and more.
One of the biggest issues with the current workflow is the transferring of footage from one place to another. This is because the shooting sets and production houses and offices are often far from each other.
So it requires users to back up the files on a hard drive and then ship them to other location for editing and other stuff.
However, the C2C technology enables users to send high-quality, low-bandwidth H.264 proxies, 4K 10bit 4:2:2 H.265 (HEVC) files. Not only that, it also sends uncompressed audio files with matching timecode and filenames to the Frame.io cloud platform. This whole process is quite secure and since Frame.io is an Adobe company now, this makes everything easy to handle.
Here is how Frame.io C2C technology works: a streaming encoder is connected to the camera output and then using WiFi, 5G or LTE connection, it can distribute clips to any number of users who need access to it as soon as the director calls cut.

Canon will be pushing out the new firmware update for Canon EOS C300 Mark III and Canon EOS C500 Mark II digital cinema cameras by the end of May 2022.
