Canon Launches Two New Wide-Angle RF-Mount Lenses

Canon is pushing out a lot of new cameras and lenses lately. Just recently they announced two new cameras: the Canon EOS R10 and EOS R7 and to accompany them, Canon has also announced two new RF-Mount lenses.

First, we have the new RF24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM and then we have the RF15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM.

The main highlight of these lenses is that they are compact and lightweight and they are both wide-angle lenses. Since they are RF lenses so you can use them with any of the EOS R cameras from the series. Now, let’s get some more details about these lenses.

Canon RF24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM

So first of all, we have the RF24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM lens and as the name might give you some hint, this one has a big diameter and the focal length of the lens is also fixed. This is a wide-angle lens but it has all the capabilities to shoot macro and also provides stunning bokeh to the bright images it captures. These are definitely some great features that are mostly absent in any ordinary kit lens. With macro capabilities, you can do a lot of different stuff with this lens.

The lens is supposed to give you next-level focus tracking because for starters, it is a wide-angle lens and then it also has an STM motor built-in. Because of this, you can easily use it for shooting videos and it would be really great for vlogging and stuff as Conon has optimized this lens for shooting social media content.

The lens has a maximum f/1.8 aperture which is great for low-light video recording as it can provide you with great focus. Then you also get better depth of field and bokeh with that kind of aperture.

Image quality would definitely not be an issue as Canon has applied Canon SSC (Super Spectra Coating) on the lens so that you do not see any ghosting or flare. There is also a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element and an aspheric element for superior image quality.

If we talk about the minimum focus distance of the lens then it is around 5.5-inches. On top of that, you can also get a close-up magnification of up to 0.5x at the minimum focus distance.

There is also OIS on board which is enhanced with In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) on the EOS R series cameras.

The weight of the lens is around 270 grams which is quite compact and lightweight as marketed by Canon.

Canon RF15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM

Next, we have the new RF15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM which is a great option for all budding photographers who want something more than an average zoom lens. Both of the lenses are an excellent choice for budding creators and photographers who are buying lenses for the first time.

Although the focal range of the lens is from 15mm to 30mm, it is equivalent to 24-48mm with APS-C size image sensor cameras.

Once again, this lens will also provide a good image quality as Canon has applied Canon SSC (Super Spectra Coating) on the lens so that you do not see any ghosting or flare. There is also a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element and an aspheric element for superior image quality.

Users will also get OIS on the lens which is further enhanced with In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) on the EOS R series cameras.

For quick focus and silent operation, you also get the great STM motor on board which gives smooth AF operation. And the weight of the lens is around 390 grams and that is as light as it could be for such a lens.

Price & Availability

The new Canon RF24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM is priced at around USD 599.99 and the Canon RF15-30 F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens is going to be sold at USD 549.99 and they should be available in the market by this August.
