Acer unveils the new Chromebook Spin 514 coupled with AMD Ryzen 5000 C-Series Processors

AMD has been hammering the CPU market from all angles, including Chromebooks, particularly luxury Chromebooks powered by AMD’s latest Ryzen 5000 C-series Zen 3 CPUs. It’s the same powerful architecture engineered on the same 7-nanometer manufacturing node as AMD’s newest version desktop, laptop, and server processors.

It has been updated & became the 1st Chromebooks to support AMD processors of the Ryzen series. These Zen 3 processors, according to Acer, are “performance-oriented” with AMD Radeon graphics. Each option also includes fast PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage, outperforming the previous model’s slower eMMC storage.

Powerful AMD Ryzen Performance

The Ryzen 5000 C-Series CPUs from AMD raise the performance bar for current Chromebooks. With up to eight cores, they allow Chromebook customers to remain unplugged all day without losing performance or productivity.

AMD’s chip range for Chromebooks isn’t their first. For standard Chromebooks, there are also the Ryzen and Athlon 3000 C-series & the 3015Ce for entry-level Chromebooks. The Ryzen 5000 C-series, on the other hand, is designed for premium Chromebooks and models that are a notch above the mainstream.

Another area of emphasis is battery life. AMD claiming all-day runtime under Chrome OS may vary based on the workload. It claims that the Ryzen 5000 C-series will provide up to 94 percent more battery life than Intel chipsets.

It claims that devices containing the CPUs may run for up to 13 hours before requiring recharging. The chips also allow multi-monitor compatibility for three 4K monitors, quick charging, and instant wake-up for Chromebooks.

Lightweight and durable design

The Spin 514 sports a 14-inch 1080p touchscreen with AMD’s Ryzen 3 5125C processor and 8GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM. The base variant also features 128GB of NVMe SSD storage.

Acer has emphasized group calls, claiming that the live complete high-definition webcam has advanced functionality & a pre-installed screen without being used.

You can upgrade the CPU to the AMD Ryzen 7 5825C, the RAM to 16GB, and the space to 256GB, and choose a display that covers the entire sRGB color gamut. The Spin 514, which is a far cry from previous low-spec Chromebooks, should be able to handle some significant workload thanks to the increase in RAM.

Every Spin 514 weighs around 3.3 pounds, and Acer promises that each battery charge will last up to 10 hours. It contains two USB-C interfaces & one USB-A interface with a left-handed headphone portal. The new Spin 514 has been classified as military-grade MIL-STD 810H, so durability should not be an issue.

Another noticeable feature is a 1080p webcam with a camera shutter, two upward-facing speakers, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and a Gorilla Glass-covered touchpad for a more premium feel. Acer also debuted Chromebook Enterprise Spin 514, which offers enterprise users the business potential of Chrome OS.

It gives an employee a modern experience and efficient machines, has built-in security, deploys easily, and lowers the total cost of ownership. In addition, Acer Chromebook Enterprise devices relieve IT of routine administrative tasks, improve communication, and provide safe access to data and apps for cloud workers.

The 14-inch 2-in-1 laptop will be available in Q3 2022 for $579.99/EUR 749, which is much more than the model from 2021. However, if you need a quicker Chromebook, the price increase may be justifiable. The enterprise model will be available at $899.99/EUR 849 in Q3.
